NFL news roundup: Seahawks sign Perrish Cox, Lions players hurt in car crash

The Seattle Seahawks signed Perrish Cox, two Detroit Lions practice squad players were injured in a car crash and more you might have missed Tuesday in the NFL.

Thearon W. Henderson

The Seattle Seahawks signed cornerback Perrish Cox on Tuesday. Brandon Browner is dealing with an injury, and Walter Thurmond is suspended for the team's next four games due to a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy, so Seattle is light at the cornerback position. Cox has spent time away from football dealing with off-the-field issues, but was with the San Francisco 49ers most recently. Cox was released this season to make room for players returning from injury. He primarily played dime corner and special teams with the 49ers.

Lions players hurt in car crash

Detroit Lions practice squad players Brandon Hepburn and Xavier Proctor were injured in a car crash last week. Hepburn, the driver, failed to yield at an intersection with a broken signal light and hit a 32-year-old woman in her vehicle. The woman was taken to a local hospital with a head injury. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Crabtree activated

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree was activated from the physically unable to perform list Tuesday. Head coach Jim Harbaugh said that Crabtree could make his season debut Sunday when the 49ers host NFC West rival St. Louis Rams. Crabtree has been inactive with an Achilles injury sustained during OTAs in May. Tuesday was the deadline for him to be activated. Crabtree has been practicing for three weeks.

Rodgers throwing in practice

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers participated in individual drills Tuesday. The veteran quarterback was throwing short passes, but was sporting his red non-contact jersey. Still, his return is an encouraging sign for the Packers, who have not won a game since Rodgers sustained the injury. Rodgers is unlikely to be ready to play on Thanksgiving.

Sanchez still has 4-6 months of rehab

New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez still has 4-6 months left in rehab from his shoulder injury. Sanchez underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum roughly eight weeks ago. He sustained the injury during the team's third preseason game. Sanchez was placed on injured reserve shortly after. He likely won't be ready for the team's offseason program.
