NFL roundup: Perrish Cox released, Matt Flynn to start and more

The Seattle Seahawks released Perrish Cox, Matt Flynn will start for the Green Bay Packers and more you might have missed from Wednesday in the NFL.

Thearon W. Henderson

The Seattle Seahawks have released cornerback Perrish Cox. The move comes just a day after signing the veteran cornerback. Seattle has a huge need at the cornerback position with Walter Thurmond and Brandon Browner both suspended by the NFL, so it's unclear why Cox was released on Wednesday. Byron Maxwell and Richard Sherman are currently the top corners in Seattle, and the team is set to take on the New Orleans Saints on Monday.

Here’s what else you might have missed on Thursday:

Flynn to start for Green Bay

Green Bay Packers quarterback Matt Flynn will make the start on Thursday against the Detroit Lions, the team announced. Flynn replaced a struggling Scott Tolzien in Week 12 and though he didn't lead the Packers to victory, he certainly looked more competent than Tolzien, who has limited experience in the NFL. Green Bay losing to Detroit without Aaron Rodgers at this point in the season would be huge.

Weeden to start

The Cleveland Browns will have to go back to quarterback Brandon Weeden this week. Jason Campbell was playing extremely well in relief of Weeden, who has been benched multiple times this season, but Campbell sustained a concussion and will be unavailable against the Jacksonville Jaguars this week.

Woodley unlikely to play

Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley is listed as doubtful for the team's Week 13 game against the Baltimore Ravens. Woodley is dealing with a calf injury that has already kept him out of two games. Kion Wilson will likely continue to fill in as a starter. Woodley is one of the best players the Steelers have, so they've definitely missed him in the lineup.

Houston doubtful against Green Bay

Detroit Lions cornerback Chris Houston is listed as doubtful for Thursday's game against the Green Bay Packers. Houston is dealing with a foot injury he sustained against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12. The Lions have a golden opportunity to get a leg-up in the NFC North while Aaron Rodgers misses time with injury, but it's going to be a bit tougher if Houston is unable to play.
