Terrelle Pryor, Arian Foster top Week 9 injury report

A trio of running backs, Darren Sproles, Arian Foster and Darren McFadden, suffered injuries on Sunday. So did Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor. SB Nation’s medical expert, Dr. Ali, takes a look at the status for each player.

Sunday's NFL contests included a number of injuries to key players, and from a fantasy football standpoint, none will be watched as closely this week as Denver Broncos TE Julius Thomas's ankle. Here's a rundown of yesterday's notable injuries, and their impact:

Quarterbacks

Terrelle Pryor, Oakland Raiders (knee)

The multitalented QB left in the fourth quarter of Oakland's 49-20 loss to Philadelphia with a right knee injury and did not return. After the game, Pryor pronounced the knee to be "stable" and did not seem overly concerned, although he will undergo further testing today to determine whether there was any structural damage. If he cannot suit up next week against the New York Giants, backup Matt McGloin, who filled in yesterday, would get the start.

Running Backs

Arian Foster, Houston Texans (back)

Foster left in the first quarter of Houston's game with Indianapolis last night after suffering a back injury. He had already been questionable to play with a hamstring injury and watched for most of the game in street clothes as Ben Tate took over duties at running back. Foster will be reevaluated this week before a determination is made whether he can take the field for the Texans' upcoming game with Arizona.

Darren McFadden, Oakland Raiders (hamstring)

McFadden, who already has missed a game this season with a strained hamstring, left in the second quarter of Oakland's throttling at the hands of the Eagles with the same injury. It was yet another in a string of injuries that have plagued McFadden throughout his career, and his status is very much in doubt for the Raiders' Week 10 contest against the Giants, with Rashad Jennings likely to take the majority of the carries next week in his stead.

Darren Sproles, New Orleans Saints (concussion)

The diminutive Saints playmaker suffered a head injury on the team's opening drive in yesterday's 26-20 loss to the New York Jets and did not return to play. The Saints officially announced the injury as a concussion, meaning that Sproles will have to pass neurological testing this week if he is to return for New Orleans' Week 10 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.

Wide Receivers

Jeremy Kerley, New York Jets (elbow)

New York's 26-20 victory over the Saints was tainted only by the injury to Kerley, the team's top receiver. Replays show that while blocking on a running play, Kerley's left arm rolled under the body of New Orleans defender David Hawthorne, bending awkwardly. While it is too early to speculate on the precise diagnosis, a dislocation or partial dislocation (subluxation) of the joint are possibilities given the mechanism of the injury, either of which could result in Kerley missing time beyond the Jets' Week 10 bye.

Tight Ends

Kyle Rudolph, Minnesota Vikings (foot)

Rudolph injured his left foot while fighting to finish off a 31-yard score in the third quarter of Minnesota’s loss at Dallas yesterday. The Vikings have not released any information regarding the severity of the injury, but with the team facing a short work week in advance of its upcoming contest with Washington this Thursday, Rudolph will have less time than usual to rest and recover.
