The Green Bay Packers officially placed tight end Jermichael Finley on season-ending injured reserve on Tuesday. Finley sustained a spinal cord injury in Week 7 against the Cleveland Browns. After the injury, the big question was whether or not Finley would even be able to play football again. The initial word from his doctors was that he would be able to, we just have no idea when that will come.

Denver Broncos offensive lineman John Moffitt is retiring from the NFL. He's just 27 years old, but said that he is "ready to live a different kind of life." Moffitt has played in 19 games over three seasons and has been regarded as a solid backup in the past. He was originally traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the Cleveland Browns, but he failed a physical and the deal was canceled. He was then traded to the Broncos in August.
Packers linebacker Clay Matthews is expected to try to practice this week. Matthews missed the last four games after fracturing his thumb in Week 5. He had to have surgery, which included having pins inserted into his thumb. Those pins were removed on Monday. It seems unlikely he'd be ready to play right away, and might need a week to get prepared.
Green Bay continued its Tuesday activity by activating practice squad quarterback Scott Tolzien. The team will likely be without Aaron Rodgers for several weeks following a collarbone injury, so they need a backup for veteran Seneca Wallace. Tolzien is a capable but inexperienced quarterback who has played for the San Francisco 49ers and San Diego Chargers.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree was cleared to practice on Tuesday. Crabtree tore his Achilles during organized team activities and is currently on the physically unable to perform list. The 49ers have three weeks to let Crabtree practice before they make a decision about activating him to the official roster.
The New England Patriots released wide receiver Austin Collie on Tuesday. Collie was with the team for five games before being released. The Patriots have gotten healthier at the wide receiver position since signing Collie, as Danny Amendola is back and looking good, along with tight end Rob Gronkowski.
