Michael Crabtree will play today for 49ers vs. Rams

The talented receiver is expected to make his season debut on Sunday.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree will finally get on the field in 2013 and is set to play on Sunday against the St. Louis Rams, reports the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Crabtree enjoyed a true breakout season in 2012 for the 49ers, gaining 1,105 yards on 85 catches with nine touchdowns, grabbing an extra 20 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns in the postseason. The veteran receiver injured his Achilles in the offseason and required surgery in May, with many fearing he could be lost for the entire season in 2013.

The 49ers are 7-4 this season after their Super Bowl loss, with Anquan Boldin stepping up as the leading receiver for the team in Crabtree's absence. The addition of the talented receiver is expected to add a new dimension to the offense, which has been decidedly run-heavy this season, although don't expect much more to change right away according to Trevor Woods of Niners Nation:

This will continue to be a power run offense, but we will see more three wide, and so on sets going forward. With Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham back, and Quinton Patton soon to be, the 49ers should utilize all of their weapons. It just depends on the matchup. If they feel that they can exploit a teams secondary by spreading them out, I don't see why there won't be more three or four wides mixed in at times. Who knows how much of those formations we will actually see, but it's good to know the 49ers will have a good enough receiving corps to go that direction if they want to. It will make them harder to game plan against.

The 49ers are set to play the Rams on Sunday with kickoff set for 4:05 p.m. ET and coverage on FOX.
