Dolphins vs. Jets 2013 final score: Geno Smith implodes in loss, 23-3

The New York Jets tried to make a switch at quarterback, but it was too little too late.

The New York Jets made a change at quarterback in an attempt to spark their offense, but it had little effect. The Miami Dolphins asserted themselves on both sides of the ball to finish with an impressive victory, 23-3.

Geno Smith had a first half to forget. The rookie quarterback threw for just 29 yards and an interception, leading the Jets offense to a season-low total of 39 yards at the break. Undrafted free agent Matt Simms was handed the ball in the hopes he could revitalize a struggling unit -- and was equally disastrous. The Jets placed a greater emphasis on running the ball, which helped the unit as a whole, but passing was still woeful and Simms finished with 79 yards passing on 18 attempts, also throwing an interception.

Ample credit belongs to Miami. The Dolphins came off a close loss to the Carolina Panthers and ensured they wouldn't carry a hangover into Week 13. Ryan Tannehill attacked a beleaguered Jets secondary, with the second-year quarterback finishing with 331 passing yards and two touchdowns.

The Dolphins' running game was semi-effective. Lamar Miller had one of his best games of the season while the defense recorded three sacks. It was a total team performance the Jets couldn't match in any phase, resulting in a 276-yard advantage in total offense by Miami.

Miami took a step forward in the AFC East with the win, poised to push for a wild card spot. The loss for New York was disastrous and could derail any chance at a postseason push. More importantly, the Jets have a larger question to answer at quarterback -- with both Smith and Simms failing to make an impact on Sunday.
