Cardinals vs. Eagles 2013 results: Nick Foles tosses 3 touchdowns in 24-21 win
Nick Foles continued his hot streak and the Eagles knocked off the Cardinals, 24-21, to keep pace in the divisional race.
Nick Foles threw three more touchdowns and the Philadelphia Eagles held off a late effort by the Arizona Cardinals to win, 24-21, on Sunday afternoon. Philadelphia improves to 7-5 and the Cardinals fall to 7-5.
The Eagles jumped on the Cardinals early, strip-sacking Carson Palmer on the opening drive. Nick Foles threw a short strike to Zach Ertz to take a fast 7-0 lead. Things didn't go any better for Palmer on the next drive, throwing an ugly interception near the goal line.
And then came some craziness in the second quarter. The Cardinals muffed a punt, and several Eagles players jumped on the ball, but it squirted out and another Cardinals player scooped it up. After gaining a handful of yards, that player coughed up the ball and Philadelphia appeared to recover. However, the play was overturned on a challenge, and Arizona kept the ball.
The Cardinals tied things up with a 43-yard catch-and-run by Larry Fitzgerald, who made defenders look foolish while galloping to the end zone. Foles drove the Eagles down the field at the end of the first half and took advantage of a costly pass interference penalty while targeting Riley Cooper to hit Brent Celek for his second touchdown pass of the day. The Eagles went into halftime leading, 17-7.
Foles continued to carve up the Cardinals in the second half, hooking up with Ertz again for his third touchdown pass. Palmer put up another dud, throwing his third interception late in the third quarter, a wounded duck to Cary Williams. He recovered from the mistakes, though, and led Arizona down to the goal line late in the fourth quarter. Palmer found a wide-open Jim Dray in the end zone to pull the Cardinals back within three points.
Foles' interception-free streak nearly came to an end when he tossed up a desperation pass to Patrick Peterson while under pressure, but it was negated by a defensive penalty. The Cardinals could not do anything on their last drive and Philadelphia comes away with the win.
Playoff Implications
The Eagles move to 7-5 and keep pace with the Cowboys in the NFC East division race. Arizona falls to 7-5 and their wild card hopes take a hit with a conference loss.
