Andre Johnson 2nd-fastest to 900 career catches

Still one of the most effective and productive receivers in the NFL, Johnson reached a new milestone on Sunday.

Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson became the 15th player in NFL history to reach 900 career catches after nabbing eight in a 34-31 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday. Playing in his 150th career game, Johnson is also the second-fastest receiver to reach the milestone, trailing only Marvin Harrison.

Johnson came into the game with 74 catches for 1,002 yards, his seventh career season of at least 1,000 yards receiving. He added 121 yards receiving on the day, giving him 12,377 yards in his career. That puts him past Jimmy Smith for 17th all-time.

Johnson is now 20 catches shy of Torry Holt for the 14th-most in league history. If he gets 100 more catches in his career, he will become the 10th player in history to catch at least 1,000 passes. He has the third-most catches and yards among active players behind Tony Gonzalez and Reggie Wayne.

The third overall pick of the 2003 NFL Draft out of Miami, Johnson was actually the second receiver selected after Michigan State's Charles Rogers went to Detroit with the No. 2 pick. Due to a series of injuries and subsequent on-field struggles, Rogers recorded only 36 career catches.

Just a bit shy of Johnson’s mark.
