Colts work out CFL Grey Cup MVP Kory Sheets

The Colts are looking to add depth to their running back unit.

The Indianapolis Colts is looking to Canada for possible running back depth. The Colts plan to work out CFL Grey Cup MVP Kory Sheets this week, according to SportsNet's Arash Madani. Sheets helped win the 101st Grey Cup with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in November, and set the championship rushing record with 20 carries for 197 yards.

Sheets has been with the Roughriders since 2012, after stints in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers. The Panthers signed Sheets to their practice squad during the 2011 season, after he played two years with the Dolphins. Sheets appeared in just two games for the Dolphins in 2009, and received one carry for five yards. He was initially an undrafted free agent out of Purdue in 2009.

The Colts have dealt with injuries and mediocrity at the running back position all season. Ahmad Bradshaw was put on injured reserve with a neck injury early in the season and prized trade acquisition Trent Richardson has played below expectations since arriving in Indianapolis. Backup Dan Herron was recently injured and Donald Brown is a glorified change-of-pace back. The Colts recently signed veteran Tashard Choice to a contract to be the third-string running back in Herron's place.

The Colts are headed to the playoffs following a win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 14. Indianapolis has clinched the AFC South title.
