NFL teams will have a bit more cash to spend in next season. The NFL is projecting a salary cap of $126.3 million for the 2014 league year, according to NFL Media’s Albert Breer. That total would be roughly a 2.6-percent increase from this season’s $123 million cap number. The additional $3.3 million could be used on top of the salary cap carry over from this season.

This season, the salary cap jumped from $120.6 million in 2012. The jump from 2012 to this season was a nearly 2-percent jump in space. With the 2014 projection, it is likely that the salary cap boosts will continue for the next several seasons under the current collective bargaining agreement.
The increase is great news for teams like the Falcons, Ravens and Cowboys, that dished out large quarterback contracts to their starting passers, as well as other franchises that were just at the mark this season. For teams with massive amounts of salary cap like the Browns, Colts and Jaguars, this is an opportunity to build on top of their large sums available cash.
