Scott Wells injury: Rams place starting center on IR

The Rams will need to shuffle their offensive line depth for the final three games of the season.

USA TODAY Sports

The Rams will need to name a new starting center moving forward. On Wednesday, St. Louis placed current starting center Scott Wells on injured reserve with a fractured fibula, according to St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Jim Thomas. St. Louis promoted guard Brandon Washington from the practice squad in a corresponding move.

Wells has been the Rams starting center since 2012. He was with St. Louis following several season with the Packers. During his time with Green Bay, he won a Super Bowl and went to a Pro Bowl in 2011.

This will be Wells second straight season with a leg injury costing him to miss several games. Last season, Wells missed nine games with a fractured metatarsal in his left foot. Wells suffered the fracture to his fibula in Week 13 against the 49ers and missed the Rams latest loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.

Tim Barnes, who started in place of Wells against Arizona, will continue to start at center for the Rams. The second-year player has appeared in 28 games.
