Jay Cutler officially named Bears starting QB vs. Browns

As expected, the team has officially said that Cutler will start over Josh McCown this week and for the forseeable future as Chicago fights for a playoff berth.

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears have officially announced that Jay Cutler will start at quarterback this week against the Cleveland Browns. Cutler has missed five games this season with groin and ankle injuries, with veteran Josh McCown starting in his place. With McCown going 3-2 as the starter with 13 touchdowns and one interception on the season, it has taken some people by surprise that the team is going back to Cutler, despite his status as a well-known name around the league.

Cutler has thrown for 1,908 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions in eight games this season and the team has gone 4-4 in his starts. The Bears are currently tied with the Detroit Lions atop the NFC North, but the Lions hold the tiebreaker due to their 2-0 record versus Chicago this season.

The Bears can’t afford to lose any games and head coach Marc Trestman appears confident that Cutler still gives them the best chance to win.
