Tavon Austin injury: Rams rookie will sit out vs. Saints
The Rams’ wide receiver missed practice all week.
Explosive Rams playmaker Tavon Austin will sit out Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints with an ankle injury, severely hampering a St. Louis offense that will need all the help it can get.
Austin suffered the injury during the Rams' loss to the Cardinals last week, a game in which he had seven touches (slightly below his season average). He's been involved in multiple facets of St. Louis's offense this season, averaging 10.5 yards per catch, 11.6 yards per run, 8.5 yards per punt return and 22.1 yards per kick return.
The rookie out of West Virginia has six total touchdowns this year, including a 98-yard punt return that stands as the longest such play this season.
This is the first game Austin has missed in his rookie year, and the Rams will likely rely more on tight end Jared Cook, the team's leading receiver, and wideouts Chris Givens and Austin Pettis.
