Jay Cutler throws interception on first series against Browns

This isn’t how the Bears wanted his return to start.

The Chicago Bears made the controversial decision to start Jay Cutler over Josh McCown Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, and he's rewarded them by tossing an interception on his first drive of the game.

On first-and-ten on the Browns’ 14-yard line, Cutler threw into double-coverage and had his pass tipped and intercepted in the endzone.

Cutler has been sidelined for over a month with an injury, and McCown has impressed during his absence, going 3-2 in the five-game span and posting a quarterback rating of 109.8, third best in the league. McCown had just one interception in his last 220 attempts. Cutler now has one in just four attempts on Sunday.

Chicago fans have tended to be torn on whether to bring a healthy Culter back or ride the hot hand in McCown, but Bears head coach Mark Trestman has been consistent in saying Cutler would be the starter whenever he returned from injury. It will be interesting to see how long he’ll stick to that commitment if Cutler continues to struggle against the Browns.
