Matt McGloin remains Raiders’ starting quarterback for Week 16

Oakland is sticking with McGloin despite his brutal outing on Sunday.

Matt McGloin will remain the starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders in Week 16 when they travel to take on the San Diego Chargers, according to ESPN.com.

Head coach Dennis Allen confirmed as much in the postgame press conference, despite the undrafted rookie free agent out of Penn State having the worst day of his young career.

In the 56-31 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, McGloin threw a career-high four interceptions on 18 of 36 passing for 297 yards. He also lost a fumble and threw another pass Kendrick Lewis dropped, which would have been a sure pick-six. His first interception was returned for a touchdown by Eric Berry in the first quarter, making the score 21-3.

Terrelle Pryor came in for a majority of the fourth quarter in garbage time and was very uninspiring himself. The Ohio State product was 1 of 4 for 12 yards and also tossed an interception.

McGloin was initially on the roster as the third quarterback behind Pryor and Matt Flynn. However, the Raiders cut Flynn midway through the season and promoted McGloin to backup status. When Pryor injured his knee against the New York Giants in mid-November, McGloin got his chance and hasn't looked back.

The former Nittany Lion has started the previous five games and completed 55.7 percent of his passes for 1,341 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.
