Cam Newton’s toe injury isn’t serious, says Ron Rivera

A toe injury sustained against the Jets isn’t expected to hamper the Panthers quarterback moving forward.

Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera said Monday that the toe injury sustained by his star quarterback, Cam Newton, is not serious, the Carolina Observer is reporting.

Calling it “not that big a deal,” Rivera explained that Newton did not undergo X-rays and that it was not being characterized as turf toe.

Newton was injured on a 7-yard scramble just before the end of the first half of the Panthers' 30-20 win over the New York Jets on Sunday. He was the first player into the locker room at intermission and the last one to return to the field for the second half, but did not miss a single snap.

“The reason we took him off early was because we had to cut the tape off and let them double-check and make sure everything was fine,” Rivera said. “Everything came out OK.”

Newton certainly seemed fine, throwing for 273 yards and a touchdown to help the Panthers improve to 10-4.
