Giants place Corey Webster on injured reserve

The Giants cornerback unit suffers another loss.

The Star-Ledger-USA TODAY Sports

The Giants secondary has been a MASH unit this season and has suffered yet another loss in Week 16. The Giants have placed cornerback Corey Webster on injured reserve with a mix of groin and ankle injuries, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano. Webster is likely done with the Giants, per Graziano.

The cornerback has been with the Giants for nine years and on their two Super Bowl-winning teams. He only played in four games this season due to lingering injuries and was replaced in the lineup by Trumaine McBride and Jayron Hosley. Webster registered 13 tackles this season.

The veteran has amassed 330 tackles, 2.0 sacks and 20 interceptions in nine seasons. He was a second-round pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. He is likely to test the free agent market in the offseason, but will probably have to settle for a backup spot on a roster.

The Giants signed wide receiver Julian Talley off of the practice squad in a corresponding move.
