Pittsburgh Steelers rookie linebacker Terence Garvin is getting the big fines out of the way early, it seems. On Friday, he was given a $25,000 fine for the hit he put on Cincinnati Bengals punter Kevin Huber. The hit fractured Huber's jaw, which had to be wired shut. The hit did not draw a penalty during the game, but the NFL admitted that it should have, which would have negated a 67-yard punt return touchdown.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive lineman Carl Nicks probably won't be returning to the team this season. Nicks has appeared in just two games this season since contracting a staph infection during an outbreak at the team's facility. He was originally deemed free of the infection in September but it came back and he had to undergo surgery. Now, with the Buccaneers out of the playoff race, he's expected to sit the rest of the year, though he has not been officially ruled out.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rodgers is still recovering from a broken collarbone and though he's been practicing over the past two weeks, he has not been cleared to play by the team's medical staff. Green Bay is in the middle of a playoff race, so Rodgers not playing is a pretty real indication that he's not ready, unlike some players who may be resting with their teams out of playoff contention.
Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker will likely miss the team's final two regular season games. Welker hasn't played since suffering a concussion in Week 14. He's already officially ruled out against the Houston Texans for Week 16, but the final game is still just a report. Still, it makes sense to keep Welker on the sidelines and get him ready for the playoffs.
Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Johnny Jolly will miss the rest of the season. Jolly sustained a neck injury against the Dallas Cowboys. He has a bulging disc and medical staff are waiting for swelling to abate before determining whether or not surgery is necessary. Either way, he's done for the year and is going to be a free agent.
