Jason Witten will be NFL’s ‘iron man’ after London Fletcher retirement

The Dallas tight end is second in line to the Washington linebacker’s epic streak of consecutive games.

The Washington Redskins will suffer a loss in durability if London Fletcher were to retire at the end of the season. The linebacker has played in 254 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the NFL. With Fletcher being "99-percent certain" of retirement, the next closest player to his durability is Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten.

The Dallas tight end has played in 169 consecutive games. Witten has missed just one game in his NFL career, way back in 2003. Along with his durability, his production has also stayed consistent. Witten has not been out of the starting lineup since 2006. Witten spoke with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram about his ability to stay on the field:

“Obviously, anything labels you as just getting older, getting up there,” Witten said. “It is hard to play consistently and at a high level like he [Fletcher] has every week, week in and week out. I’ve been fortunate to be healthy, and that’s a big part of it. Obviously, London, that’s just unbelievable at that position to do it as long as he’s done it.”

Giants quarterback Eli Manning is the next-closest player to Witten and Fletcher. Manning has started 149 consecutive games, which is just behind Witten's streak.
