Adrian Peterson will play for Vikings vs. Bengals

The star running back missed last week’s contest with an injury.

Minnesota star running back and reigning NFL MVP Adrian Peterson will play Sunday against the Bengals, Ian Rapoport is reporting. Peterson missed the VIkings' win over the Eagles last week with a foot injury, and Rapoport says not playing in the game left him "a little miffed."

The Vikings have struggled this year, posting a 4-9-1 record, and Peterson has seen a drop in production from his historic 2012 season. He's averaging 4.6 yards per carry and 93.9 yards per game, compared to 6.0 yards per rush and 131.1 yards per contest last year. His numbers have been more comparable to his 2009-11 stretch, which was also a slight drop in production from his incredible first two seasons.

A slightly less productive Peterson is still miles ahead of most other running backs in the league, and despite missing last week's contest, he ranks second in the NFL in rushing this season, behind just LeSean McCoy.
