Calvin Johnson active for Lions game against the Giants

The Lions will have Megatron in the lineup this week after all.

Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson will play in a critical Week 16 matchup against the New York Giants.

It was unclear whether Johnson would play on Sunday after his participation in practice was almost non-existent. He was held out on Wednesday and Thursday, while being officially listed as “limited” on Friday. The team listed his status as “questionable,” with Johnson recovering from a knee injury that caused him to miss one game earlier in the season.

Johnson has been the team’s most consistent offensive weapon in 2013, catching 81 passes for 1,449 yards and 12 touchdowns. Quarterback Matthew Stafford has struggled in recent weeks, but the team’s receiver has been a constant threat -- regardless of the passing situation.

Detroit doesn't face an extremely difficult game against the Giants, but the team can't afford to be complacent. A loss on Sunday would make their a chance at the playoffs very difficult, allowing the Chicago Bears to take control of the NFC North and potentially usher in a surprising scenario where the injured Green Bay Packers could limp into a division win.
