Agent: Henry Melton was not ‘physical’ instigator for altercation

Henry Melton’s agent released a statement Tuesday, saying his client was not the physical instigator of an altercation that led to his arrest.

US PRESSWIRE

Chicago Bears defensive tackle Henry Melton was not the physical instigator of the incident that resulted in his arrest Sunday morning, according to his agent, Jordan Woy, via the Chicago Tribune. Woy says that Melton did not "physically" start any altercation that evening, of course leaving the implication that Melton was disorderly and possibly instigating things verbally.

Woy said that there have been “several independent witnesses” who have contacted him separately to corroborate the story that Melton did not escalate matters physically. Melton’s agent also hinted at possibly taking the offensive from a legal standpoint, suggesting that Melton was the victim.

Melton was charged with misdemeanor assault and public intoxication after his arrest at a sports bar in Grapevine, Texas. Melton reportedly “became belligerent with some of the staff members of the restaurant,” and when being escorted he reportedly struck one of the staff members.

Melton is a one-time Pro Bowler, but played in just three games this season before tearing his ACL and being placed on injured reserve.
