Johnathan Joseph placed on Texans’ injured reserve

Houston Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, along with running back Deji Karim.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Texans placed cornerback Johnathan Joseph on injured reserve Tuesday, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. Joseph suffered a torn ligament in a toe Sunday against the Denver Broncos, and will have to have surgery. Joseph sustained the injury in the second quarter of the 37-13 loss in Week 16.

Joseph, a Pro Bowler in 2012, has been with Houston since 2011 when he was acquired as a free agent. He has 55 tackles, one tackle for loss, three interceptions and 16 passes defensed this season. He’s the top corner in Houston, which makes the injury especially painful.

Houston also placed running back Deji Karim on injured reserve. Karim sustained a broken collarbone. To fill the two spots on the roster, the Texans signed running back Ray Graham and fullback Toben Opurum.

Graham was signed by the Texans as an undrafted free agent this season, but did not make final roster cuts prior to the season opener. Opurum may be used as an H-back. He has experience as a tight end.
