Josh Cribbs injury: Jets WR likely done for the rest of the year

The Jets have likely lost one of their few playmakers on offense and special teams.

Timothy T. Ludwig-USA TODAY Spor

The Jets will likely need a new kick returner moving forward this season. Head coach Rex Ryan said on Tuesday that wide receiver/kick returner Josh Cribbs suffered a "bad" shoulder injury, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post. Cribbs was injured in the Jets Week 13 loss to the Dolphins and was replaced by cornerback Antonio Cromartie on kick returns.

A "bad" injury during this time of year typically means being placed on injured reserve. Cribbs has appeared in six games for the Jets after signing midway through the season. He played for the Raiders during the preseason, but struggled through injuries and was released during final cuts.

While Cromartie is a prolific returner, the idea of playing him in that position on a full-time basis seems unlikely, according to Costello. Cromartie is the team’s top cornerback, so they are not likely to subject him to possible injury down the stretch.
