Lions LB Travis Lewis suspended 4 games for PED use

The Lions will be missing a linebacker for the rest of the regular season.

Mike Carter-USA TODAY Sports

The Lions will be missing some depth at linebacker to close out the season. Detroit linebacker Travis Lewis has been suspended by the NFL after violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances, according to Lions reporter Tim Twentyman. It is unclear whether or not Lewis has or will appeal the suspension.

Lewis is a second-year linebacker with limited experience. He has served as mostly a special teams player since being drafted in the seventh-round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Lions. In 25 games, Lewis has collected just nine total tackles, including one in the Lions' most recent game against the Packers on Thanksgiving. At Oklahoma, he was a Butkus Award semifinalist during the 2010 season.

With Lewis out of the lineup, linebackers Ashlee Palmer, Rocky McIntosh and Tahir Whitehead will likely see larger roles on special teams.

The Lions will travel to Philadelphia in Week 14 to take on the Eagles.
