Cardinals QB Carson Palmer expected to play vs. Rams

The Cardinals will avoid starting backup quarterback Drew Stanton on Sunday.

John Geliebter-USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Cardinals will likely have their starting quarterback in the lineup on Sunday. Carson Palmer took the all of the first-team reps in Saturday's walkthrough and is expected to start for the Cardinals against the St. Louis Rams, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Palmer injured his elbow in Arizona's Week 13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Palmer was listed as questionable on the team's official injury report on Friday. He has played in all 12 games this season for the Cardinals and has played well over the last five games. Palmer has thrown for 3,189 yards, 19 touchdowns and 17 interceptions this season, while leading Arizona to a 7-5 record. He has also assisted in the emergence of second-year wide receiver Michael Floyd and young tight end Rob Housler.

The Cardinals are currently behind the San Francisco 49ers and Eagles in the wild card race. In order to stay alive in the playoff hunt, they will need to beat the Rams on Sunday.
