On Wednesday, Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed was asked about his future, as he becomes a free agent after Super Bowl XLVII against the San Francisco 49ers. He was asked Wednesday by the Boston Herald if he would consider playing for the New England Patriots and, more specifically, head coach Bill Belichick.

Shockingly, a Super Bowl story may have been blown out of proportion, as Reed assured the world Thursday that he’d like to stay in Baltimore.

Reed responded with this:
Yeah, oh yeah, man, I could definitely play for coach Belichick. He is a great coach. I’m sure he can help me to expand my football knowledge even more as a player and as a coach, so if I’m ever able to be around him, just like I was at the Pro Bowl, it’s huge.
Of course, this lead to the usual overblown speculation, seen at its disproportionate finest during Super Bowl week, and Reed decided to clarify his original thoughts, this time to the Boston Globe, on Thursday.

Of course I want to stay in Baltimore. I was asked, would I play for Bill Belichick? Yes. What football players wouldn’t play for coach Belichick? Will I be in New England? Most likely not. It’s just terrible that people get half the story. It’s even more bad when you hear the comments that they make towards you. But it comes with it, man.
The 34-year-old safety will be an unrestricted free agent after this season, and has recently unequivocally said that he will be playing football next season. Reed has also stated in the past, however, that the Ravens will be the first team he attempts to work out a new deal with.
Time will tell, of course, but it doesn’t appear that Reed will be hopping on a plane to Boston first thing out of New Orleans.
