Super Bowl prop bets 2013: Looking at longshots for the MVP award

You probably know the favorites, but here’s a look at the MVP odds for some far-fetched players in Super Bowl XLVII.

Jared Wickerham

Colin Kaepernick, Joe Flacco, Ray Lewis, Frank Gore. These four players, according to Bovada, have the best odds to win the Most Valuable Player award at Super Bowl XLVII between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers.

Sometimes, though, a player off the beaten path steals the show, and this year’s championship game has a few interesting players with long odds who could potentially make a big impact.

The player on the board with the longest odds is San Francisco tight end Delanie Walker, who currently has a 100/1 shot to win MVP of the Super Bowl. Walker has two catches for 37 yards in the postseason so far, as Vernon Davis typically gets the tight end targets for the Niners.

A few players are interesting at 75/1, beginning with San Francisco punt returner/receiver Ted Ginn Jr., because you never know when a special teams play will flip the script. Another is Ravens safety Bernard Pollard, simply because he seems to have a knack for the big defensive play, though that might be only against the New England Patriots. We'll see. Both kickers -- David Akers and Justin Tucker -- also have a 75/1 shot at the MVP.

Baltimore linebacker Terrell Suggs is 50/1, the same as San Francisco wide receiver Randy Moss, and an MVP award would certainly help the whole "greatest receiver ever" thing.

Possibly the most ridiculous MVP, in terms of the storyline it could generate, would be if Alex Smith, with his existential thoughts and heartfelt journaling, were to win the award at 66/1 odds. There would be no question, if that were to happen, who would be going to Disney World.
