New York Giants defensive end Justin Tuck was a little bit surprised by the rash of cuts the team made last week, but he understands why the team did what they did, according to Jenny Vrentas of the The Star-Ledger.

The Giants cut three veterans last week, but Justin Tuck understands why.

The Giants released running back Ahmad Bradshaw, linebacker Michael Boley and defensive end Chris Canty last week to clear out cap room for 2013. The Giants relieved about $14 million by doing so, according to Vrentas.
Tuck said he understands the NFL is a business and the moves were “financially driven,” Vrentas wrote:
“Those guys have done a great job over the years of building a team that can be successful, and I don’t see why we can’t trust in the fact that they know what they’re doing up there,” Tuck said tonight at the annual Founders Dinner at Cipriani Wall Street. “Those decisions aren’t easy decisions. I’m sure Jerry and everyone up there had some tough times and some tough conversations about them, but they felt as though it needed to happen, and they went forward with it.”
Tuck also said he hopes the team could bring some of those cap casualties back on cheaper deals.
Ed Valentine at SB Nation’s Big Blue View said Tuck is on the ball with his thoughts:
... First, he's right. Reese has helped construct two Super Bowl-winning teams and rosters that are competitive each year. He knows what he's doing. Second, if Reese were to decide Tuck needed to be one of those cap casualties (which I do not expect) I wonder how he would feel.
The cuts come at a cost. The Giants still have $5.6 million tied up in those three players for the 2013 season. Bradshaw is the most expensive. He’ll be on the books for $2.5 million next year.
Tuck will make $6.15 million next season, but he has not been approached about his contract, he said.
