Eagles offseason: Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie could be out in Philly

Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie are big names, but both were inconsistent in their two years in Philadelphia. They’re talented, though, and the decision on their future will have major cap ramifications.

If the coaching staff believes both players just need a scheme change or a fresh start in Philadelphia and could play to their reputation, the Eagles won’t need to shake up the position. But it’s also conceivable to let both walk and restart.

Asomugha had a reputation as one of the finest corners in the NFL before he landed in Philly, but he hasn’t showed that since. Asomugha will be 32 next season and he’s due $15 million -- the highest salary on the books next season. If the Eagles cut Asomugha, they’ll owe him just $4 million and free up $11 million in cap space.

Rodgers-Cromartie is a free agent. Despite only starting 11 games over the last two seasons with the Eagles, Rodgers-Cromartie could make a pretty penny this offseason because most teams are always looking for a cornerback. Like Asomugha, Rodgers-Cromartie hasn’t been the same since leaving Arizona.

... he just wasn’t good enough last year. You could say that as the play of the defense declined, he suffered... but that ignores the fact that he was part of the reason the defense declined. Along with Nnamdi Asomugha, he’s the poster boy on this team for “not as good as advertised.”
