Jeff Saturday released by Packers

The Green Bay Packers released Jeff Saturday on Monday. The retiring center will likely sign a one-day contract with the Colts before formally retiring.

Jeff Saturday was released by the Green Bay Packers on Monday according to Adam Schefter, likely signaling one of the last two transactions Saturday will be involved in as a player in the NFL. Saturday will likely sign a one-day contract with the Indianapolis Colts, where he spent the first 13 years of his career.

Ian Rapoport believes Saturday is in fact in Indianapolis, and his formal retirement could occur in the near future.

Saturday signed with the Packers following the 2012 season, as Indianapolis decided to move on from its old regime of players -- including the release of Peyton Manning. Though Saturday signed a two-year deal with Green Bay, the center decided to retire following the 2013 Pro Bowl. Saturday did not play particularly well for the Packers, and was eventually benched late in the season.

With special permission from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Saturday was allowed to have Manning take the final snap of his career in the Pro Bowl -- despite the longtime duo representing opposing conferences in the Pro Bowl.

Saturday appeared in six Pro Bowls during his 14-year career, and was named to the All-Pro First Team twice, and the All-Pro Second Team twice. Saturday appeared in two Super Bowls, both with the Colts, winning Super Bowl XLI, but losing Super Bowl XLIV.
