Titans GM expects Jared Cook to be with team in 2013

The Titans plan to franchise the tight end.

Jim Brown-US PRESSWIRE

Tennessee Titans general manager Ruston Webster said Thursday at the NFL Combine that he expects tight end Jared Cook to be with the team in 2013, according to SB Nation's Ryan Van Bibber.

News floated around last week that the Titans would slap the franchise tag on Cook, but they haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Teams have until March 4 to franchise players.

Titans coach Mike Munchak agrees with the GM.

Cook said last season he wanted to be traded, but the team didn’t fulfill his request before the trade deadline.

Cook, 25, is coming off his fourth season in the league and with the Titans. A third round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Cook has played in 59 games and started just 12. Last season, Cook caught 44 passes for 523 yards and four touchdowns in 13 games.

If Cook does enter the open market, there would likely be a handful of teams interested in the talented tight end. The Atlanta Falcons could be a bidder considering veteran Tony Gonzalez might retire this offseason.
