The Green Bay Packers are interested in signing defensive end Chris Canty, according to Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel.

Canty was released by the New York Giants in early February. He was offered a contract by the Tennessee Titans, but declined. He was reportedly choosing between the Titans and the Kansas City Chiefs, but he hasn't landed in Kansas City yet.

Canty would fit nicely in a 3-4 defense. Silverstein also wrote that Canty would “fill a need at tackle in the nickel defense” for the Packers.

The 6'7 Canty has spent eight seasons in the NFL, splitting them evenly between the Dallas Cowboys and the Giants. He was a fourth-round pick by the Cowboys in the 2005 NFL Draft out of Virginia.

With the Giants, Canty was a starter for the majority of his four years. He recorded nine sacks and 125 tackles in 49 games with the team. Canty played in just nine games in 2012.
