Ricky Jean-Francois could move from one iconic NFC team to another this offseason. The Green Bay Packers are interested in signing Jean-Francois when free agency opens on Mar. 12, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Jean-Francois spent 2012 serving as San Francisco’s backup along the defensive line at all three defensive line positions. The 26-year-old defensive lineman registered 22 tackles last year and recorded three sacks.

Packers fans shouldn’t expect Jean-Francois to be a starter -- one NFL executive believes Jean-Francois is best suited for rotational work, just as he was utilized in San Francisco.

“Solid in-line run defender,” an executive in personnel for an NFL team said last week. “Average pass rusher. He’d add good 3-4 defensive end depth and potential base-down starter as a five-technique ‘dirty work’ player. I’d prefer him more in the rotation than as a (starter).”

Per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Jean-Francois could be an ideal replacement for Jerel Worthy, who tore his ACL in December. Worthy, Green Bay's second-round pick in 2012, underwent surgery to repair his knee in January. It's highly improbable that Worthy will be ready to begin the 2013 season.

San Francisco could opt to re-sign Jean-Francois before free agency opens. It seems unlikely, however, that Jean-Francois will return to San Francisco -- unless the 49ers decide to make him their starting nose tackle.
