NFL rumors: Matt Cassel linked to Arizona Cardinals

The Chiefs are heading a different direction at quarterback, which means Matt Cassel will be looking for a new home.

When the Kansas City Chiefs traded for Alex Smith, Matt Cassel became the odd man out. The Arizona Cardinals could be a potential landing place for the veteran quarterback, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Cardinals may have had the only QB situation worse than Kansas City in 2012, so they are likely open to any ideas.

Cassel started out reasonably well in Kansas City after putting up big numbers with the Patriots in place of an injured Tom Brady. During his second season with the Chiefs, Cassel completed 58 percent of his passes for 3,112 yards and 27 touchdowns against just seven interceptions. It was downhill from there, as Cassel would play in just 18 games he next two seasons, tossing 21 interceptions and 16 touchdowns.

The combination of Kevin Kolb, John Skelton, Ryan Lindley, and Bryan Hoyer completed just 55 percent with 11 touchdowns and 21 interceptions in 2012. Take out Kolb's eight touchdown passes and three interceptions, and things start to look even worse.
