Roy Miller, Buccaneers end contract talks

The defensive tackle is likely leaving Tampa Bay after contract negotiations with the team have come to a halt.

Defensive tackle Roy Miller becomes an unrestricted free agent on March 12, and all indications appear to be leaning towards the notion that he won't be returning to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next season.

The two sides have a lot of distance separating them in terms of a new deal right now, according to a report from Stephen F. Holder of the Tampa Bay Times on Thursday, and negotiations have come to a complete stop for the time being.

From what Miller’s agent, Mike McCartney, said in Holder’s report, it seems like the three-year veteran’s eyes are already focusing on what else could be available around the league:

“Roy is excited to see what’s out there for him in free agency. He has a lot to offer after an excellent season, helping a team that was last against the run (in 2011) go to No. 1 against the run last season.”

Miller was taken by the Buccaneers in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft out of Texas. In 2012, the 6’2, 310-pounder registered 24 tackles as one of the main cogs in Tampa Bay’s rush defense that surrendered a league-best average of 82.5 yards on the ground per game.
