Cowboys restructure Brandon Carr’s contract, according to report

The Dallas Cowboys continue their barrage of restructuring contracts with cornerback Brandon Carr, saving them their most cap space yet.

Add another player to the list of Dallas Cowboys who restructured their contracts on Thursday, cornerback Brandon Carr. Carr reworked his contract to save the Cowboys $10.5 million against the cap this season, according to the Star-Telegram's Clarence Hill.

Carr was due $14.3 in base salary in 2013 as part of the $50.1 million deal he signed last offseason, but by converting some salary to bonus, Dallas was able to save $10.5 million in cap space. In 2012, his first season in Dallas, Carr intercepted three passes, defended 11 more, and made 53 tackles.

The Cowboys have already reworked the contracts of defensive end DeMarcus Ware, tight end Jason Witten and guards Nate Livings and Mackenzy Bernadeau in a push to get under the 2013 salary cap. Before all the new deals, the Cowboys were believed to be about $20 million over the cap. Between those four players, Dallas is believed to have saved between $9 and $10 million against the cap.

Carr's new contract should push them near the cap, with more restructured contracts expected, and an extension for quarterback Tony Romo. Once all the deals are complete in Dallas, they may actually have some room to be a player in free agency.
