The New York Jets appear to be desperate to create a quarterback competition.
Jets work out QB David Garrard, according to report
The New York Jets worked out free-agent quarterback David Garrard on Thursday, as they look to create more competition at the quarterback position.

The Jets seem interested in free-agent quarterback David Garrard, according to the New York Daily News, who hasn't appeared in an NFL game since the 2010 season when he was still with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Reports surfaced earlier Thursday morning that the Jets are also interested in signing quarterback Brady Quinn, who has struggled at every stop in his pro career.
Per the Daily News’ source, the Jets already worked Garrard out on Thursday. Garrard has completed 61.6 percent of his passes throughout his career, while throwing 89 touchdowns and 54 interceptions. Garrard’s career quarterback rating is 85.8.
The Miami Dolphins signed Garrard last season, but ultimately released him prior to Week 1, giving the starting job to Ryan Tannehill, which left Matt Moore as the backup.
If Garrard is aiming for a starting gig in the NFL, the Jets are as likely a team as any. New York is looking for competition for its default starter, Mark Sanchez. Sanchez was benched last year in favor of third-stringer Greg McElroy, but ultimately got his job back after his replacement suffered a concussion.
Sanchez led the Jets to the AFC Championship game in each of his first two seasons. Unfortunately for Gang Green, the Jets lost to the Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers in each of those contests, and haven't been back to the playoffs since.
In 2011, Sanchez threw for a career-high 3,474 yards and 26 touchdowns. Sanchez also threw 18 interceptions and fumbled four times.
New York brought in Tim Tebow to serve as an all-purpose player, as well as Sanchez' backup in 2012, and neither Sanchez nor Tebow benefited. Sanchez threw just 13 touchdowns in 15 games, while throwing 18 interceptions and fumbling nine times, including the infamous "butt fumble" on Thanksgiving night against the Patriots.
