Seahawks open to trading Matt Flynn, per report

Matt Flynn may have a chance to start somewhere in 2013.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The Seahawks signed Matt Flynn last offseason with the intention of him becoming the team's starting quarterback, but now they'll have to make a trade to give him that opportunity. The team is open to doing that, according to NFL.com's Ian Rappaport. Russell Wilson beat out Flynn in the 2012 preseason, and is now firmly entrenched as the franchise quarterback.

That leaves the Seahawks with two quarterbacks that they like on the roster, but Flynn could become unhappy pretty quickly in a backup role. With Alex Smith bringing two draft picks to the 49ers in a trade with the Chiefs, Seattle could stand to benefit greatly from dealing Flynn.

The former Aaron Rodgers understudy threw just nine passes last season after signing a deal that will pay him $5.25 million in 2013. He caught the NFL's eye when he threw for 480 yards and six touchdowns against the Detroit Lions in the 2011 season finale.

With so many quarterback-starved teams around the league, it’s likely there will be more than a few squads that will jump at the chance to trade for Flynn.
