Super Bowl power outage: 49ers have been here before

The power has gone out at Super Bowl XLVII. The San Francisco 49ers have experienced this sort of occurrence once before.

USA TODAY Sports

Shortly after an electric kickoff return for a touchdown by Jacoby Jones, the Louisiana Superdome lost power.

Super Bowl XLVII is not the first time the San Francisco 49ers have had the lights go out on them. In Jim Harbaugh's first season as head coach in 2011, the 49ers faced off against the Steelers on Monday Night Football. While hosting a prime time game from Candlestick Park, there was a blown generator nearby.

On the top left of this image, you can see a blue flash -- that’s the overloading generator.

This caused a delay that evening, and the 49ers had to rest, refocus and get back in the game. The Niners went on to defeat the Steelers 20-3 on prime time. Of course, Alex Smith was the quarterback then, not Colin Kaepernick.
