The Detroit Lions have signed offensive tackle Corey Hilliard to a two-year contract extension, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Hilliard, 27, will compete for the starting right tackle job, according to Schefter.
Hilliard was inactive for all 16 games during the 2012 regular season. According to Michigan Live, Hilliard was inactive because Riley Reiff and Jason Fox were in front of him on the depth chart.

The former sixth round pick in 2007 by the New England Patriots has been fighting for a starting job his entire career. The Patriots waved him and he joined the Indianapolis Colts' practice squad for two seasons. He joined the Cleveland Browns before the 2009 season, and then was signed by the Lions off the Browns' practice squad in 2010.
In three years in Detroit, Hilliard has played in 32 games and made five starts. He started four games in 2010, but has only started one game since.
