After releasing DeAngelo Hall on Monday, could the Redskins already have his replacement in their sights?

Facing salary cap constraints, the Washington Redskins aren't expected to be big spenders in the free agent market, but Washington is expected to make a push to sign cornerback Aqib Talib, according to Mike Garafolo of the USA Today.

Talib who spent the final six games of the season with the Patriots, will be one of the top cornerbacks available on the free agent market. He does have ties to Washington as Redskins general manager Bruce Allen drafted Talib in Tampa Bay. Washington secondary coach Raheem Morris is also familiar with Talib, having coached him for four seasons in Tampa Bay.

The Redskins are in the market for a cornerback after they released veteran DeAngelo Hall on Monday. Talib was considered one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL earlier in his career but struggled last season. He was suspended four games last season for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances. After being traded to New England, he struggled in coverage as well. According to Pro Football Focus, Talib finished the 2012 season with a minus-0.1 grade, but graded out at minus-6.8 during his tenure in New England.

Even if unable to regain his old form, Talib could still help a very porous Redskins pass defense. Washington finished 30th in the NFL in pass defense last season, allowing 281.9 passing yards per game.
