Terrance Knighton, Broncos close to contract according to report

The Broncos and DT Terrance Knight are closing in on a contract that would reunite the former Jaguar with Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio.

Sam Greenwood

Free agent defensive tackle Terrance Knighton is close to signing a contract with the Denver Broncos according to Adam Schefter. Knighton spent the first four years of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, including three seasons under Jack Del Rio, who is now the Broncos defensive coordinator.

During his first three seasons in the league, Knighton started every game he was healthy, but in 2012 he started just four times. Still, he managed 32 tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles last season, but he would like to return to a role as an every down starter.

The Jaguars selected Knighton out of Temple in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft and he is among their better defensive players, but fell behind C.J. Mosley on the depth chart. Knighton is an excellent run stopper and would fill in nicely on the Broncos, who have made defensive tackle on of their targeted positions in free agency this offseason.
