Ndamukong Suh restructures contract for Lions

Ndamukong Suh agreed to restructure his contract, helping the Lions sign notable free agents such as Reggie Bush and Jason Jones.

USA TODAY Sports

Detroit Lions defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh restructured his contract, giving the Lions cap space to sign free agents this offseason -- which they did with Reggie Bush and Jason Jones.

Suh was due to have a cap hit of $18.1 million in 2013, but that number figures to be significantly lower after restructuring his contract. Suh signed a five-year, $60 million deal prior to the 2010 season, after being selected with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Suh’s cap hit in 2012 was a mere $6.8 million and was due to spike by nearly $12 million in 2013. Suh’s cap number in 2014 is also quite high, at $17.5 million. It’s unknown what the final years of Suh’s contract will look like after restructuring.

After slumping in his sophomore season in 2011, Suh played well in 2012, recording eight sacks and 35 tackles. Suh was named to the NFC’s Pro Bowl team in 2012 -- marking the second time in his career.
