Josh Cribbs rumors: Browns receiver takes visit, physical with Cardinals

Free-agent wide receiver and kick returner Josh Cribbs is meeting with the Arizona Cardinals -- and will reportedly take a physical with the Cardinals, signaling a contract in the near-future.

Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE

Free-agent kick returner and wide receiver Josh Cribbs could be close to signing a contract with the Arizona Cardinals. Cribbs is reportedly visiting Arizona -- and the Cardinals are giving him a physical, according to Mary Kay Cabot.

Typically when a team gives a free agent a physical, a subsequent signing comes in the near-future.

Cribbs has been linked to the Cardinals throughout the past week, including an erroneous report last Wednesday, which claimed Cribbs had a contract finalized with the Cardinals. Still, interest between the two parties was genuine, and the two sides appear to be close to a contract regardless.

2013 will mark the first season of Cribbs' career outside of Cleveland, as the kick-return specialist spent the first eight seasons of his professional career with the Browns.

Cribbs’ new team is expected to utilize him more at wide receiver, according to a report filed before the onset of free agency. Cribbs was targeted a career-high 67 times in 2011, but saw his production on offense drop significantly in 2012, receiving just 11 targets, and finishing the season with seven receptions for 63 yards.

If Arizona does sign Cribbs, the former Browns receiver will likely displace Patrick Peterson as Arizona's punt returner.
