Raiders rumors: Rolando McClain allowed to seek trade out of Oakland

The Oakland Raiders have given linebacker Rolando McClain permission to seek a trade.

USA TODAY Sports

The Oakland Raiders have had enough of Rolando McClain and have agreed to let the troubled linebacker seek a trade out of Oakland according to Ian Rapoport. If no trade agreement is reached, McClain will be released.

McClain has been a disappointment in Oakland on and off the field since the Raiders selected him with the eighth pick of the 2010 NFL Draft. Last season he totaled 62 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble in 11 games. His production hasn’t been significant enough to warrant his five-year, $40 million contract or counteract his off the field issues.

Most recently, McClain was arrested on Jan. 8 after being pulled over for a window-tint violation and giving the officer a fake name. He faced assault and gun charges previously in his career that were dropped. McClain also got into a heated argument with coach Dennis Allen last season that resulted in him being kicked out of practice and suspended by the team.

It will be hard for McClain’s agent to find anyone willing to take on McClain at his current salary given his multitude of issues, so mostly likely the Raiders will release him and make McClain a free agent.
