Phil Costa, Cowboys agree to 2-year deal, according to report

Phil Costa agreed to a two-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys, according to a report.

Rob Carr

Phil Costa has agreed to a two-year deal to remain with the Dallas Cowboys, according to ESPN Dallas' Todd Archer.

Injuries limited Costa to just three games in 2012. Costa originally injured his back in Dallas' Week 1 contest against the New York Giants, and did not return to the field until Week 6, when the Cowboys lost to the Baltimore Ravens. A week later, Costa suffered a dislocated ankle, and was subsequently placed on injured reserve.

Costa was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Maryland in 2010, and became Dallas' starting center in 2011, when the Cowboys released Andre Gurode.

Dallas' offensive line struggled in 2012 -- especially without Costa. Ryan Cook and Mackenzy Bernadeau started at center for Dallas in Costa's absence.

Costa was ticketed for restricted free agency prior to agreeing to his new two-year contract. It’s likely that Costa’s new deal will help save the Cowboys money against the 2013 salary cap.

Jason Witten, Miles Austin, Brandon Carr, Ryan Cook and DeMarcus Ware all restructured their contracts earlier this week, to help give the Cowboys more cap space.
