The St. Louis Rams have an open starting running back spot, and Isaiah Pead may be next in line. Jeff Fisher spoke highly of the former Cincinnati Bearcat at the NFC coaches' breakfast on Wednesday, according to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Longtime Rams running back Steven Jackson signed with the Falcons on Mar. 14, opening up an opportunity.

There is one man who could stand to benefit greatly from Steven Jackson’s departure to the Falcons.

Pead carried the ball just 10 times in 2012 for a total of 54 yards. His most productive outing came in Week 17 against the Seahawks when the running back rushed five times for 21 yards. He also caught three passes on the year for 16 yards. He has yet to reach the end zone in his young NFL career.
Fisher sees potential in Pead, and said that his depth chart position was more about the guys in front of him than his own abilities:
“He just didn’t get a chance because of the other two,” Fisher said, referring to Jackson and Richardson. “But he’ll get his opportunity this year. ... He’s got a chance to make a lot of big plays for us.”
Jackson leaves some big shoes to fill after being the feature back in St. Louis for the past eight seasons, all of which topped 1,000 yards. He rushed the ball 257 times last season, meaning Pead would be set up for a breakout season if he is able to emerge as the starter.
