NFL news roundup: Vince Young works out, Shaun Rogers gets robbed and more

The pro day circuit continued on Tuesday and while NFL prospects await their chance to get into the league, one familiar face was working out for a chance back into the league.

The last time we saw Vince Young on a football field, he was playing with the Buffalo Bills, in the preseason. Now, after a year out of the league, Young is trying to work his way back in.

Young worked out at the University of Texas’ Pro Day on Tuesday, particpating in the throwing drills and speaking with NFL personnel, according to Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas. According to Watkins, Young threw the ball well, both on the indoor and outdoor fields. Whether the workout is enough to generate interest from NFL teams remains to be seen, but it can’t hurt. Since being released by Buffalo last preseason, Young has drawn only minimal interest from NFL teams. Showing he is in shape and committed to a comeback could help him generate a training camp invite from a quarterback needy team. Burnt Orange Nation has complete coverage of Texas’ Pro Day.

In some bizarre news, New York Giants defensive tackle Shaun Rogers was robbed recently while staying at a hotel in Miami. According to reports, Rogers brought a woman back to his hotel room and when he woke up the next day, the woman and $500,000 worth of jewelry were gone. Police are attempting to recover the stolen jewelry, which includes two wristwatches worth a combined $160,000. For more on Rogers and the Giants, head over to Big Blue View.

There wasn't much movement on the free-agent market on Tuesday, although free agent safety Michael Huff began taking visits around the NFL. Huff met with the Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday and will visit the Baltimore Ravens and Green Bay Packers next. The 30-year-old Huff has the versatility to play either safety or cornerback, making him an attractive option on the open market. The Cowboys may need to act quickly if they are going to land him as Huff said he would not wait for Dallas to free up salary cap space. Blogging the Boys has much more on the Cowboys salary cap situation and their offseason moves.

Michael Bennett already signed his free-agent deal, but it appears as if a lingering shoulder injury will continue to linger into next season. After he signed with the Seahawks, reports surfaced that Bennett had a torn rotator cuff. As it turns out, Bennett played the entire season with the injury and is not planning to undergo surgery to fix it. In a radio appearance, Seahawks general manager John Schneider said surgery may be an option down the line, but Bennett will not go under the knife in the near future. Bennett recorded 9.0 sacks last season despite the injury. He signed a one-year deal worth $5 million early in free agency. As Danny Kelly of Field Gulls wrote, the Seahawks were certainly aware of the injury prior to signing Bennett and are either comfortable with the recovery time or are convinced he will be able to play through it.
