Ravens, Michael Huff agree to 3-year contract

The Ravens continue to reload their defense with another free-agent signing.

USA TODAY Sports

Free-agent safety Michael Huff has a agreed to a three-year contract with the Baltimore Ravens, according to Matt Zenitz of the Carroll County Times. Huff is an eight-year veteran who has spent his entire career with the Oakland Raiders. He was released by the team on Mar. 12. Huff was also considering the Packers and Cowboys.

Huff was originally drafted with the seventh-overall pick in 2006 and has missed just four games as a professional. He tallied 56 tackles, 13 passes defensed and two interceptions last year in Oakland. Huff’s best season came in 2010, when he amassed 94 tackles, seven passes defensed, four sacks and three interceptions.

This signing will help fill the void left by departing safety Ed Reed, who signed with the Texans last week.

Baltimore has been working on building its defense back up after a number of defections this offseason. Paul Kruger, Dannell Ellerbe, Ray Lewis and Bernard Pollard are among those gone from the 2012 squad. The Ravens have since signed Elvis Dumervil to reload the linebacking corps.
